The multimedia sponsorship, booked by Carat, includes British Gas branded pre-show trails across the station throughout the day, in-show credits and features.
On the day of the launch, the homepage of Absoluteradio.co.uk will have a British Gas "reskin" and the deal includes a month-long sponsorship of the Absolute Radio media player on the website.
All the in-show credits for the sponsorship will be written by Christian O'Connell and the breakfast show team, which a spokesman from Absolute Radio said was an example of its "access all areas" approach.
Three two-week long promotions on the breakfast show will air during the six months to support British Gas' ongoing campaigns and each promotion will include online activity with branding and editorial on the Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show pages on Absoluteradio.co.uk.
Chris Goldson, commercial director at Absolute Radio, said in the current economic climate when business is more short-term it's great to see a blue chip brand such as British Gas sees the "value of sponsorship" and recognises the "benefits of this six-month campaign".
Andrew Hogan, senior marketing manager at British Gas, said The Christian O'Connell Breakfast Show and Absolute Radio are the great fit because "British Gas is helping people look after their worlds, and Christian is part of that, helping to look after their mornings".
Hogan said Absolute Radio has an "ability to connect with consumers" and make this activity entertaining and "really stand out on the airwaves".
