According to unofficial overnight viewers, 'Britain’s Got Talent' ('BGT') had a peak audience of 11.4 million across ITV and ITV HD, down very slightly on the 11.51 million who watched the show in real time last year.

From 7pm, 'BGT' had an average audience of 9.23 million across ITV and ITV HD (a 36.6% share), down slightly on the 9.31 million viewers who tuned in on the channels 2012.

However, including the contribution of ITV+1, Saturday’s 'BGT' recorded a peak audience of 13 million, comfortably beating the 12.2 million peak in 2012, and average audience of 10.48, ahead of the 9.86 million in 2012.

The talent show, fronted by Ant and Dec, is sponsored by Morrisons as part of a wide ranging deal announced at the start of the year. This year's series also features returning judges Cowell, Amanda Holden, David Walliams and Alesha Dixon.

Peter Fincham, the director of television at ITV, said: "I'm delighted with such a strong start to what promises to be a fantastic series, with lots more for viewers to look forward to."

Meanwhile, 'The Voice' had an average audience of 6.67 million, a 26.8% share, between 6.45pm and 8.15pm across BBC One and BBC One HD.
