Britain's Next Top Model returns with 325,000 viewers

LONDON - Living's 'Britain's Next Top Model', the modelling competition hosted by Lisa Snowdon, returned for a fourth season last night with 325,000 viewers tuning in, according to unofficial overnight figures.

The first episode of the 12-part modelling contest attracted a 1.3% share of the multi-channel audience in the 9pm slot.

The first challenge of the series involved a topless shoot for jeans brand Rock'n'Republic and ended with the first elimination of the series.

ITV1's 'Taggart' took a big hit from BBC One's 'Waking the Dead', which won the 9pm slot with 6.3m viewers and an impressive 26.1% share of the audience.

'Taggart', one of ITV's top performing dramas, came in second, pulling in 4.7m people and a 19.5% share.

Channel 4 put in a good performance with a special of its archaeological series 'Time Team' drawing in 2.3m viewers and a 9.5% share. Including the Channel 4+1 ratings, it attracted 2.5m and a 10.4% share.

The final part of Channel 4's current affairs series 'Immigration: The Inconvenient Truth', in which Rageh Omaar investigates how immigration has affected Britain, attracted 1.3m viewers and a 5.1% share in the 8pm-9pm slot. Including the Channel 4+1 ratings, it attracted 1.3m viewers and a 5.4% share.

Five's repeat of its 'Paul Merton in China' series, following the comedian as he travels through China, netted 1m viewers and a 4% share of the 9pm-10pm audience.

It also achieved a respectable audience for its 'Dom Joly's Complainers' series, which drew in 1.1m viewers for its second episode and a 6.5% share of the audience in the 10pm-11pm slot.
