Nearly 1,000 people would have attended the industry networking evening. It was set to be a private showing of Future Cinema’s Bugsy Malone show, which includes gangster characters Dandy Dan and Tallulah.

An email to guests today said: "I'm very sorry to inform you that, due to today's tube strike news, we will have to postpone the Bugsy Malone Speakeasy event at Troxy that we were so looking forward to welcoming you to. It turns out that Dandy Dan isn't half as dastardly as your very own London gangster - Bobby Crow! After a lot of thought, Tallulah and I just didn't want to put you in a position where transport to and from the Speakeasy was a worry, so we felt we had no option but to postpone."

Guests who were set to attend are invited to attend any other performance in the show's run - which ends on 29 April - for free.

Will Broome, founder of London Launch told Event: "I’m always reluctant to cancel anything and this would have been one of our biggest events yet with nearly 1,000 people on the guest list, so it is a double disappointment."

"We had every hope that the strike wouldn’t happen but the news came through that it would go ahead. From our perspective, most people could have got to the venue as the strike starts at 4pm, but there might have been a nightmare with people unable to get home after a big night."

Broome added: "Troxy have been brilliant. It was their call as it’s their venue. They’ve said that anyone who wants to have the Bugsy experience can come for free on another night, so all is not lost."

The next London Launch event will now be on 2 May at the new Sky Bar in Westfield Stratford City.
