UK car industry sees best year since recession

According to UK car industry trade body, the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), the number of cars built in the UK hit a seven year high for the first half of the year.

Some 793,642 cars were built in the UK in the first half of the year, the highest the number has been since the recession hit in 2008.

According to the BBC, the 5.4% annual rise in car production is at odds with the 7.9% decrease in UK car demand, suggesting that international trading is boosting demand and that British-made care brands are strong in key markets.

The SMMT applauded the industry's investment in technology and its relationship with government.
