BRANDING: Weight Watchers adds to portfolio with soup ranges

Weight Watchers from Heinz is adding two instant soup ranges to its portfolio as a healthy snacking option for consumers trying to diet.

The Instant Soup and Snack Soup ranges comprise seven options in all: four in the Instant range and three in the Snack line. All soups in the Snack selection include pasta. Packaging design is by Jones Knowles Ritchie.

The soups will be promoted in Weight Watchers Magazine, backed by sampling and other initiatives in the new year. Last week, Weight Watchers appointed Leo Burnett as its advertising agency.

Weight Watchers has more than 24% of the healthy and low-calorie soup market, according to IRI, with its range of nine canned soups.

Heinz Soups innovations manager Scott Axcell said: "Our objective is to grow the instant soup market, consistent with the trend of healthy eating among consumers."
