Branding News: Design choice - Tesco Clubcard key fob

Just consider how often you look at your keys in the course of a day. That's why I think the Tesco Clubcard key fob is such a worthwhile concept.

The Clubcard has been given a smart new look. It's not that different from your familiar old card, but it is eye-catching enough to make you re-evaluate it. It's clean, crisp, and bright, a reflection of the larger Tesco brand.

But the really clever bit is this: with your shiny new card, you get a mini version. It's a fully functional Tesco Clubcard and gets you all your Tesco Club points with your shopping when it's swiped at the till. But it's been shrunk to fit on your keyring.

We all have our keys with us all the time. Now, every time we pull them out, we are reminded of the Tesco brand. Not only is the Tesco name in front of you countless times every day, but the fob is a prompt to pop into Tesco and pick up some bread, milk, cheese, DVD players or any of the increasing range of stuff Tesco offers these days.

Let's face it, you can't get much more direct than being in a customer's pocket all day long.

And while the Clubcard key fob is fully functional, it doesn't bear your name, signature or any account numbers - just a little barcode. That's very reassuring in these security-conscious days.

It is only a small thing, but as they say - and it's right here, staring up at me from my keyring - every little helps.
