Branding: Nando's widens marinade range

Nando's, the chicken restaurant chain, is expanding its range of grocery marinades with the addition of a Mango & Lime variant.

The marinades, which are sold under licence by The Grocery Company, are the most popular in the UK, with a 28.5% share of the market in 2007, according to IRI.

The Mango & Lime variant has recently been introduced to the Nando's menu and joins the brand's ketchup and barbecue sauce, dips and flagship Peri Peri hot chilli sauces in supermarkets.

Ben Johnson, marketing director at The Grocery Company, said that although the summer barbecue season remained key for the marinade market, more people were buying the products throughout the year.

Anheuser-Busch recently unveiled plans to expand its Budweiser lager brand into the sauces sector (Marketing, 6 February).
