The product had been trialled in selected Tesco stores as a block-form chocolate, but Mars has decided to launch it nationally in a so-called 'impulse format'.
The Galaxy brand and the cookie crumble variant, due to be launched in the spring, will be supported by a multimillion-pound campaign later in the year.
The launch follows Cadbury's introduction of a Dairy Milk Apricot Crumble Crunch variant in September last year.
Galaxy, the number two chocolate brand in the UK, grew its sales by 4.9% to £189m in the year to October 2008, according to Nielsen.
In contrast, market leader Dairy Milk recorded flat sales over the same period.
