BR Video: Public delivers Daybreak verdict

ITV1's new breakfast TV show 'Daybreak' has struggled to retain initial peaks in viewers since launching on 7 September, but what does the wider public think of it?

On its first day after replacing 'GMTV', 'Daybreak' was watched by an average of 1.01 million viewers between 6am and 8.30am.

Yesterday it was watched by 790,000 viewers in the same slot, compared to BBC One show 'Breakfast' with 1.38 million.

However, people interviewed for this week's BR Video seemed impressed by the presenting team of Christine Bleakley and Adrian Chiles, who ITV poached from the BBC's 'The One Show'.

Cheryl, a 38-year-old housewife, said "I do like them, both of them", a sentiment echoed by Nash, a 52-year-old retired PE teacher.

Their opinions were balanced out by Holly, a 30-year-old personal assistant, who said: "I watched one and it's just not really my sort of thing. I think they [Chiles and Bleakley] are better suited to where they were in the early evening. I think they had a cheeky chemistry and I don't think it suits breakfast telly."

Many of our respondents said they had struggled to find time to sit down and watch the show due to their work lives.

Cheryl remarked that she normally listened to the radio at breakfast rather than watching TV.

The video was produced by Vox Pops International on behalf of Brand Republic.
