Bowie and Springsteen CDs to boost IPC's Uncut

LONDON - IPC is giving its music and movies monthly Uncut a circulation boost with a series of special editions, featuring covermounted CD tributes to the stars David Bowie and Bruce Springsteen.

David Bowie will feature in the March issue of Uncut, including a CD covermount featuring covers of Bowie songs by Duran Duran, Blondie and Ian McCulloch. It will be supported by 21 pages of editorial about Bowie during his Ziggy Stardust period.

The April issue will feature Bruce Springsteen. His fans will have to choose between two different covers with different CD tributes to the New Jersey rocker. The editorial will include a top 30 of Springsteen songs, as chosen by his contemporaries.

IPC has previously bolstered the sales of its dance music title Muzik with a series of retro covers, featuring Kraftwerk, Madonna and Prince circa 1984.

Uncut has been seeing its circulation climb, while other music titles such as NME suffer. Its last ABC figure was 83,487, a rise of 14.1% on the previous six months.

Niall McKinney, marketing director of IPC Ignite, said: "Uncut will be delivering further growth in the next round of ABCs and that's because it has always given its readers exactly what they want.

"Our 2003 reader survey confirmed our readers can't get enough of the mix of iconic rock stars, new music and the latest film and DVD releases. This proves that Uncut delivers the elusive upmarket male more efficiently and in greater numbers than traditional men's press."

The March issue of Uncut goes on sale on February 5.
