The BBC has yet to line up an opponent for 15 stone, 6' 1" Bosnich because hardly any celebrities are his size and have his sporting prowess.
The Amateur Boxing Association, which is working with the corporation on the show, stipulates that two fighters must be within seven pounds weight of each other and have similar physical attributes.
The rules limit the celebrities the BBC can sign up because getting a fat man who weighs 15 stone would be no competition for Bosnich because of his muscle-to-fat ratio.
A BBC spokesperson said: "We are looking for a celebrity to fight Bosnich, we will hopefully be signing someone soon."
When a match for Bosnich is found, the show will air this spring on BBC Three and later on in the year on BBC Two. The corporation hopes to makes the show a regular fixture on its schedules.
In January 2003, when BBC Two screened 'The Fight: Bovey v Gervais', it managed an audience of 4.1m -- three times more than the average BBC Two audience, which wavers around the 1.5m mark.
There have also been two charity celebrity boxing matches for Sport Relief on the BBC. The first saw comedian Bob Mortimer fight 'Family Fortunes' presenter Les Dennis and the second saw 'Castaway' contestant Ben Fogle fight one-time 'EastEnder' Sid Owen.
Bosnich, a former cocaine addict who was sacked from Chelsea after testing positive for the drug, pulled out of the current series of 'Celebrity Big Brother' a few days before it was due to air, leaving Channel 4 bosses searching frantically for a replacement.
