The document, based on research conducted by over 300 buyers of meetings and events, is designed to identify trends in London's event sector.

Results show that 75% of respondents believe London's profile is significant for the future of events in the city, with 76% stating that London's role is very important for the events industry.

In catering, 42% felt ethical food production and sourcing was important with the majority believing that standards had increased.

Elsewhere, business travellers reported an increase in Tube use and 35% of people agreed that technology is dictating the planning of events.

Johnson said: "I believe that the capital will emerge from this period of economic uncertainty in a very strong position providing unrivalled opportunities over the coming decades.

"With the recent fall in the value of sterling there has never been a better time to visit London and get great value on every pound, dollar, euro or yuan."
