1. Chris Riley.

A partner at Wieden & Kennedy, Portland, Oregon. The UK's brainiest

planning export worked for Gary Duckworth at Horner Collis & Kirvan

before heading on an upward trajectory, which was mirrored by Wieden &

Kennedy's success. Riley is an active contributor to debates about the

brand on a couple of key accounts.

2. Emma Cookson.

The planning director at Bartle Bogle Hegarty's New York office. Before

that, she was a board director in Great Pulteney Street, where she

became the first planner to head an account group. She is often

described as having "a brain the size of a planet".

3. Jon Steel.

The vice-chairman at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. BMP-trained and one

of the first exports of planning to the US, were he has been for 13

years. The author of the widely admired Truth, Lies & Advertising.

4. Rosemarie Ryan.

The president of Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners. Renowned for her strategy

on Snapple. This, together with that American tendency to put planners

in charge of things, helped make her the president of KBB. While

strictly speaking a London export, she can claim Irish heritage, so she

can say she's not just another Brit planner working in the US.

5. Fiona Clancey.

The British planning director at TBWA BDDP Paris, where she has been for

most of the 90s. Before that, she was a planning partner at HHCL &

Partners in London. Clancey is described as "seriously bright and nice

with it".

6. Ayesha Walawalkar.

The planning director at BBDO Singapore, Walawalkar has worked all her

planning life within the BBDO network, having originally been a graduate

trainee at Abbott Mead Vickers, where she spent nearly ten years. She

heads up BBDO Asia's planning operation from her office in

Singapore.

7. Tony Wright.

The executive planning director at Ogilvy & Mather New York. Wright is

described as a real heavyweight, who acts as a business partner for

clients such as IBM, as well as running the planning department. One of

the first British planners to cross the pond, more than 15 years

ago.

8. Andy Nairn.

A senior planner at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. A softly spoken

Scotsman who started his career at Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO. Continuing

the tradition of successful Brit exports, Nairn made the transition from

London to west coast life extremely successfully.

9. David Hackworthy.

Formally at D'Arcy on Broadway, now at TBWA, New York. An Australian by

birth, one of an emerging wave of planners who has never worked in

London, and instead has learned about the discipline at traditionally

strong planning agencies in other parts of the world.

10. Nick Bartle.

A senior planner at Goodby, Silverstein & Partners. Following a career

in the wine trade, Bartle started planning at TBWA BDDP Paris, where he

rose to become Fiona Clancey's deputy. He moved to San Francisco about a

year ago.
