BMP DDB scoops Grand Clio for Volkswagen

LONDON - BMP DDB London scooped the Grand Clio print award for its Volkswagen poster campaign at the Clio Awards last night in Miami Beach, Florida.

With the slogan "Fun on the outside serious underneath", the poster campaign showed the cut out shape of a Beetle in different materials, one of which had animal print fabric outside and pin stripe inside.

BMP DDB also won two golds and two silvers for the Beetle campaign, as well as two bronzes for the VW Gold Estate and the Nicorette gum print ads.

CLM/BBDO Paris was runner-up for the top Grand Clio prize for its Kookai campaign. This featured photographs of men's chests after heart surgery, supposedly after seeing women in revealing Kookai clothing.

Brazilian agency F/Nazca S&S won nine statues -- two golds, three silvers and a bronze went for its work on Fundacao SOS Mata Atlantica PSAs, one gold on its America Economia work and a bronze each for Pulligan pantyhose and Suvini paint.

Diageo's Guinness was named advertiser of the year in recognition of work by five agencies, most of which were UK-based. These included Abbott Mead Vickers BBDO, HHCL, Ogilvy & Mather, Saatchi & Saatchi and Weiss Stagliano Partners in the US.

No Grand Clio was awarded for interactive advertising. Instead, Freestyle Interactive in San Francisco won one gold and two silvers for banner ads created for Hewlett-Packard.

The Clios for commercials are to be awarded tonight in Miami Beach.
