BMP DDB loses Barclaycard advertising after 13 years

LONDON - Barclays has moved the above-the-line account for its credit card brand Barclaycard out of BMP DDB, which held the account for 13 years, into its main advertising agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty.

BMP's work for Barclaycard included the award-winning Rowan Atkinson campaign in the early 1990s. Barclays brand strategy manager Sara Deeks said BMP had helped the bank to establish Barclaycard as the leading credit card brand in the UK.

"BMP has done an excellent job for Barclaycard over the past few years. However, we are keen to build on the brand's strength through a fresh approach, helping us to develop new links with existing and potential customers," she said.

BBH developed Barclay's main branding proposition, "Fluent in Finance". The advertising campaign is fronted by Samuel L Jackson, although BBH has said the actor is unlikely to be used in the new series of ads next year.

BBH also worked on other Barclays group advertising, including campaigns for the Woolwich and Barclays Private Clients.

Barclays announced earlier this month that it would be taking over the title sponsorship of the FA Premier League from Barclaycard, in a deal worth 拢19m a year from next season.
