BMP DDB boosts its senior line-up

BMP DDB is bolstering its senior management line-up with the

promotion of the joint managing directors, Ross Barr and Chris Cowpe, to

joint chief executives. Jorian Murray, the agency's client services

director, steps up to the managing director role.

Murray will report directly to Barr and Cowpe. Chris Powell remains the

chairman of the agency.

The position of chief executive has been vacant since Powell moved up to

become the chairman two years ago. Barr and Cowpe's elevation will mean

that they have more time to work across their roles in new business and

account management.

Murray's role will be to focus on the agency's client and internal

operations.

He will also continue to head the Volkswagen account.

Cowpe and Barr have both been at BMP since 1972. Barr joined the board

in 1978 and became joint planning director in 1985. Cowpe was head of

account planning and account management before being promoted to joint

managing director, alongside Barr, in 1990.

Murray started his advertising career at Publicis in 1988, being

promoted to the board two years later. He joined BMP in 1992 as an

account director on VW, and was promoted to the board in 1993. Murray

turned down the chance to replace Simon Toaldo, WCRS's marketing

director, and was promoted to become the head of account management at

BMP in October 1997.

He became the client services director in August 2000. During his time

at the agency he has worked on accounts including Sony, the Labour

Party, Barclaycard and the National Dairy Council.

Murray said: "I'm absolutely thrilled at the prospect of managing so

much talent. I see the role as agency impresario; it's my job to make

sure that the conditions are right for us to continue to present and

produce the best ideas."

Barr added: "He's a very instinctive manager with a lot of energy who

mixes being challenging, but being calm and consensus-building, to

create strong relationships and results."
