Premier League clubs Birmingham City, Wigan, Portsmouth and West Ham, along with Celtic and Championship team Wolverhampton Wanderers, are among those to have given Bluepod exclusive Bluetooth site rights in their grounds. The company also has preliminary agreements with a further four clubs.
Each club has signed up to install around 15 Bluepod units, which can send club news, sponsors and ads to fans’ mobile phones.
Fans opt-in to receiving free ads and club profiles, fixtures, news and manager notes, with ads paid for by advertisers at a pay-per-download rate of between 40p and 70p.
Advertisers, which have so far included Yahoo!, have unique downloads monitored by the ABC.
Bluepod UK managing directpr John Scorah said: “This is not about tagging on to outdoor advertising companies; it works well in its own right, particularly when people are standing around for two hours, and the sites have been established for some time so people get used to them.”
