While many companies stage management gatherings with senior executives, the News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch's gathering at Pebble Beach is unsurpassed in the stature of speakers he is able to attract.
As well as Blair, who is squeezing a speech in ahead of a meeting with George Bush to talk about Lebanon, Israeli vice-premier Shimon Peres, Arizona senator and Republican Presidential hopeful John McCain and former US Vice-President Al Gore will also be in attendance.
Topics up for discussion include Bono delivering a keynote address titled "The Power of One", dealing with poverty and Aids.
The conference will begin with Murdoch before turning over the stage to California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger who in turn will introduce Blair, the first major speaker.
It is not known what Blair will be talking about, but over the next few days, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times, Peres will talk about "Islam and the West" and Roger Ailes, who helped build Fox News, will kick off a panel that will include four high-ranking US military officers who have all served in Iraq.
Andrew Butcher, a News Corp spokesman, said: "It's not your standard cookie-cutter management conference where you only talk about business.
"The businesses we run give our people unique social responsibilities in their communities. The retreat is meant to provoke and broaden their perspectives so they return home more curious and informed about the world."
For politicians like Blair and presidential hopefuls McCain and possibly Gore again, it is clear what it is in for them: influence in Murdoch's media empire, which spreads around the world from the UK and US, to Australia and Asia and parts of Europe.
From the UK Murdoch media business, son James, chief executive of BSkyB, will be there and will be on the main stage introducing some speakers. Also putting in an appearance will be Lachlan Murdoch, who resigned from News Corp last year after a disagreement with Murdoch senior.
