Blackburn takes on breakfast task at Classic Gold

Veteran DJ Tony Blackburn has left his role at Capital Radio after 15 years to front the breakfast show on UBC Media's Classic Gold network.

Blackburn, who moves from rival 'classic hits' station Capital Gold, will host a new weekday breakfast show across the Classic Gold radio stations from March 2003.

Previously, Blackburn worked for both stations, presenting a Saturday morning programme on both Capital Gold and Classic Gold and a weekday evening programmed on Capital.

The move follows renewed interest in the DJ after his success in ITV's 'I'm a celebrity - get me out of here!'

UBC chief executive Simon Cole said: "We're delighted that Tony has decided to front the new Classic Gold breakfast show.

"After the success we had seen with his audience for the Saturday programme we decided to move to build on that and to make Tony exclusive to our service in an increasingly competitive sector."
