BK in Spider-Man toys promotion

Burger King has tied up with the release of Hollywood blockbuster Spider-Man 3, giving a clear indication of its continued commitment to targeting children with promotions.

Rebelling against the prevailing pressure to not market foods high in fat, salt or sugar (HFSS) to children, the fast-food chain will offer one of 10 licensed character toys with every Kid's Meal.

Although Burger King stopped advertising to children on TV last year, a spokeswoman said it continues to offer toys with children's meals as 'they enhance the fun and playful experience of visiting our restaurants'.

The Spider-Man 3 activity will include the launch of a range of new menu items to reflect the appearance of Spider-Man, whose suit turns black in the film. The Dark Whopper, for example, contains cracked black pepper ketchup and cracked black pepper cheese. Web-shaped fries will also be available.
