BJK&E has begun the hunt for a new director to head its

technological arm, BJK&E Advance, following Steve Mills’ decision to

quit for new-media outfit Interactive1 Group.

Mills joins Interactive1 Marketing, the web marketing arm of the group,

in January, and will be responsible for growing business with existing

and new clients.

Mark Patterson, managing director of BJK&E, said Mills’ replacement

would lead a six-strong team with billings of pounds 28 million in

Europe - 25 per cent of which is in the UK.

Following a clutch of new-business wins, Patterson has hired a third

media manager, Ed Pizey, who has been running Compaq at BMP Optimum. He

joins in December and will work internationally on clients such as

ft.com, UPC, Priority Cable and chip manufacturer AMD.

Reporting to Patterson, Pizey will work alongside the other media

managers, Mary McGaughey and Luc Ferrand.

BJK&E has also created a new group head role and is looking for someone

to fill it. Reporting to associate director Richard Parson, the new

group head would work on clients including the Financial Times, the

Teacher Training Association and Danepak.

Patterson said: ’In the medium term we are moving up a league. We need a

bigger and better squad.’

Other new BJK&E staff include planner/buyer Simona Milone, who joins

today from FCA!, and Fraser Sharp, who joins from Media Audits to

replace Amy Lennox who has joined new-media start-up Organic.

Mills launched BJK&E Advance as the agency’s specialist technology

division in 1997. He said he was looking to recruit people with agency

and media owner backgrounds to work as account handlers with his new

company.
