Bingo authority to widen appeal with £3m ad blitz

The National Bingo Game Association (NBGA) is to promote bingo's image as a leisure pursuit for everyone with the launch of its first national free prize draw. It will be supported by a £3m advertising and promotional blitz.

The association is giving away nearly £1.5m in cash prizes as part of what it claims will be the UK's biggest bingo prize draw.

The 'Ground Shaker' promotion will run in more than 500 NBGA bingo clubs for a five-week period, beginning on April 17.

The final draw, taking place on May 8, will see the winning club receive £1m to share among its members.

The promotion aims to attract lapsed and new players by highlighting the big-money prizes available at local bingo clubs.

Creative for the campaign, which includes national television advertising and direct mail, is through consultancy Poulter Partners.

NBGA's advertising originally aimed to reverse the decline the bingo industry suffered after 1994 with the launch of the National Lottery, now renamed Lotto.

It aimed to boost business by positioning Bingo as a game for people of all ages, not just pensioners.
