Big Brother hit by 1,500 complaints about sexist bullying

LONDON - Ofcom has received over 1,500 complaints about Big Brother housemates Rex and Darnell's treatment of fellow contestant Sara, who was called an 'ugly bitch' and a 'slut'.

Darnell and Rex were called into the diary room in last night's episode and warned that their behaviour towards Australian PA Sara could be seen as unacceptable and that they were being monitored.

Channel 4 has already removed two housemates from the Big Brother house for unacceptable behaviour. Alex was removed after issuing threats from her gangster friends to fellow housemates, while Dennis was axed after he spat in the face of Mohamed.

When Darnell was first called into the diary room he said: "Oh so basically because I called Sara an ugly bitch yesterday that's why I'm in the diary room now. Is that what it is?"

Rex responded to the warning by saying: "I am sarcastic and throw silly comments out. I can understand how it can be seen as unacceptable but I don't feel it would have become unacceptable if it was just me doing it."

Darnell had previously been friends with Sara but started attacking her after she rejected his advances and admitted fancying ex-housemate Stuart.

Tuesday night's programme showed Darnell and Rex pushing Sara to say how many men she had slept with and implying she was promiscuous. Darnell went on to call her an "ugly bitch" and said that he thought she would have been "around the block".

In a second live show at 11.05pm last night the housemates had to nominate a fellow housemate for the final time in front of each other rather than in the diary room. Sara and Lisa received the most nominations and will face the public vote on Friday.

However in a twist, the pair were then called into a separate room and given the chance to play a game of chance to win a jackpot of £50,000.

The two had the choice to share or take the cash. If they both chose to share then they would share the £50,000; if one chose to take then she would get the £50,000 all to herself; and if they both chose to take then no one would win.

The housemates both chose to share, earning £25,000 each, which is separate from the main £100,000 prize fund.
