Big Bang contest lines up paid internships for up to 50 young creatives

Recruitment consultancy Daniel Marks has lined up 50 young people with 170 meetings with agencies about paid internships through its annual Big Bang creative internship scheme.

The meetings have been arranged after over 100 creatives and marketers judged work submitted by a pool of young creative talent in answer to a brief from Daniel Marks to create a brand and advertising for an IFO – an Identified Flying Object.

Fifty finalists were chosen from a pool of applicants sourced through London-based colleges, The Prince’s Trust and cultural education organisation A New Direction.

Daniel Marks sought to have gender balance in the judging panel by recruiting female judges through Creative Equals, which champions gender equality in the advertising industry.

Entries included "Up", a build-your-own toy kit which can make anything fly, and "Birdie", a camera you throw in the air to take a group selfie, which bore the slogan "Don’t take a selfie - take a Birdie".

This year’s winner of the Rising Star award was Anthony Morrison Bowen (above, centre), who conceived the NasDrone, a flying AI device connected with a VR headset, and the idea that a user could connect with a community of other NasDrone ‘pilots’.

According to Daniel Marks, Bowen had always wanted to work in advertising but didn’t know how to get a start. He was forced to drop out of college at London Metropolitan in his second year and always struggled with academia.

Nick Turner, EMEA chief creative officer at SapientNitro and Razorfish, said: "The Big Bang Internship Awards is a great way for young people to get their foot in the door with the best agencies and most talented chief creative officers and executive creative directors in London. The calibre of entries goes from strength to strength each year."
