Bhs chief exits for top Evening Standard role

Associated Newspapers has appointed Bhs marketing chief Jane Hayman

to become the Evening Standard's first marketing director.

Hayman, who resigned in March after just over three years at the high

street retailer, left yesterday. She joins Associated late next

month.

Reporting to Evening Standard managing director Sally de la Bedoyere,

Hayman will be charged with building the newspaper into a brand integral

to Londoners' lives.

Hayman, 40, had intended to take a portfolio of roles, but is understood

to have found the lure of the Standard role too attractive to turn

down.

She was keen to take a senior marketing job outside the retail sector,

where she has spent the majority of her career.

It is not known whether her appointment will signal an agency review at

the Standard. The roster includes Bates UK, 141 and MediaVest.
