German media giant Bertelsmann has been granted clearance by the European Commission to buy Groupe Bruxelles Lambert's 30% stake in RTL Group, giving it majority control of the pan-European broadcaster.
deal will give Bertelsmann ownership of two thirds of RTL, with Pearson owning the rest of the company.
Bertelsmann CEO Thomas Middelhoff said, "We now hold all the necessary majorities at our disposal to forcefully push forward our TV operations and significantly strengthen the position of content powerhouse."
