Here at Below the Belt, we've long known that footie is more than just a game, but a philosophy on life itself. So who better to invite to one's own wedding than the pun-tastic king of pundits, 'Big' Ron Atkinson?
So thought Manchester United-supporting Rupert Pybus, director of DM agency Ping, and his wife-to-be and Villa fan, Anna, when they were planning their wedding day invites.
Apparently, Ron compered the entire evening and regaled - or was that bored? - the guests with tales of his glory days as a player at Oxford United and the not-so-great manager of various teams, including Aston Villa and Manchester United. (Ah, we get the link now ...)
So in praise of the man who has uttered more crap than we care to think about, we couldn't leave without giving you a few of his most memorable quotes.
- "I think that was a moment of cool panic there."
- "I wouldn't say that he (David Ginola) is one of the best left wingers in the Premiership, but there are none better."
