Bebo hires Burns to drive European push

Bebo chief executive Joanna Shields has turned to her ex-Google colleague Kate Burns to run the social network's UK and European operations.

Burns, currently UK managing director of video site Dailymotion, will join Bebo in August as vice-president and managing director across Europe, to lead the social network's expansion strategy.

She will report to Shields, who, in her dual role as Bebo chief executive and president of AOL People Networks, will turn her attention to Bebo's global presence, as well as integrating the firm into parent company AOL.

Burns, who joined Dailymotion only in April, will roll out local Bebo sites across countries including France, Germany and The Netherlands.

Since leaving Google in June 2006, Burns has taken a number of positions, including head of search at ad network AdLink, as well as working for search marketing firm SearchRev, Signature and affiliate network Buy.at.
