BBC's 'Today' under fire for biased Saudi Arabia report

LONDON - The BBC Radio 4 'Today' programme has been criticised by broadcasting watchdog Ofcom for a report that suggested corruption in Saudi Arabia was widespread.

A Saudi government official complained about the flagship news programme's report, in which an interviewee alleged that any business conducted with the Saudi government required the bribing of diplomats and other officials.

Ofcom criticised the BBC for broadcasting the one-sided allegation without a statement of denial. The broadcaster had received a denial from the Saudi Ambassador in London, Turki Al Faisal, before it ran the story.

The media regulator also criticised 'Today' for not trying to uncover the grounds for the interviewee's allegations. The report was branded "unfair to both the Saudi government and the embassy".
