BBCi tops UK entertainment sites

LONDON - BBCi, the former BBC Online which rebranded in November, is the most popular UK entertainment website, according to a survey by Hitwise, the internet traffic and research service.

BBCi, which features BBC content on topics ranging from sport and news, to food, health and children's entertainment, attracted 45.42% of visits to UK entertainment sites for the week ending January 14.



The website, the licence-fee funded web-based offering from the UK's public service broadcaster, was a long way ahead of its closest competitor. In second place was Lycos Free SMS, which allows users to send free text messages, attracting 10.84% of visitors.



In third place, betting website Betgenius had 8.99% of visits, while the Internet Movie Database was in fourth place with 6.08%, and in fifth place was ITV with 5.94% of visits.



The rest of the top 10 UK entertainment sites comprises competition site The Daily Draw, book shop bol.com, news and entertainment site Sky.com, Channel 4's online presence Channel4.co.uk and another betting site, William Hill Sportsbook.
