BBCi aims for kids and teachers with online science site

LONDON - BBCi Schools is launching a new science education web site called Science Clips.

, is aimed at five- to 11-year-olds and their teachers. It broadly covers the whole of the primary science curriculum.

It aims to be an interactive 'hands on' online science centre to be used in the classroom or at home. There are 36 interactive Flash experiments, ranging from the very simple for the youngest children to more sophisticated set-ups for older children.

Experiments have a series of buttons, levers or dials designed to encourage children to explore, ask questions, and learn by doing rather than watching or reading. Each experiment comes with a graded series of narrated tasks and a quiz.

There are also printable resources for teachers to support class activities and lesson planning. These include 36 printable worksheets and more than 70 lesson plans written by practising teachers.

The website has been produced by design agency Alternative View Studios.

Myriam Compagni, producer at BBCi Schools, said: "Science Clips is a major new addition to BBCi Schools' online resources. Science Clips was a 360 degree commission - the TV, DVD and website were produced simultaneously to provide students with one coherent multimedia package."
