BBC Worldwide pulls plug on 'Star' celeb magazine for teens

BBC Worldwide has axed Star, its fortnightly celebrity-focused

teenage magazine, exactly one year after the title launched.

The publisher is blaming the troubled state of the teen magazine market

- notoriously difficult to crack - and poor newsstand sales growth

potential for the magazine's demise.

A spokesman for BBC Worldwide said that every effort was being made to

accommodate the magazine's staff elsewhere within the company.

Star has just one dedicated ad sales person, but was also sold as part

of the BBC's teen group.

The magazine posted ABC figures of more than 130,000 last year, but has

not been audited since. The last issue of Star will be on sale from 23

October.
