"We are delighted to have someone of Seema's calibre join our team. In marketing terms, we are facing some great challenges in a number of markets and I am confident that Seema's experience in the fields of broadcasting and international travel will be a great asset," Gorard said.
In a separate announcement, BBC World has also beefed up its advertising sales teams in Asia with the appointment of Simon Page as account director for North Asia, based in Hong Kong, and Sarah Green as account manager of airtime sales, based in Singapore.
Page joins from Dow Jones Review Publishing in Hong Kong, where he was responsible for ad sales for the Far Eastern Economic Review. Green has been transferred from BBC World's London offices, where she worked as senior account executive on the channel's airtime sales team.
