BBC to share content with newspaper groups' websites

LONDON - The BBC has agreed to share video news with four national newspaper groups in an unprecedented deal.

BBC to share content with newspaper groups' websites

The Daily Mail & General Trust, Guardian News & Media, Telegraph Media Group and Independent News & Media have all signed up to the partnership which will give the publishers access to content, expertise and technology.

The BBC will provide a limited range of video news content to some of the online news sites published by the companies. However, no advertising can run around the videos as a pre-roll or post roll and the video content will carry BBC branding.

The Independent.co.uk will supplement its own video material for the BBC's content in four areas - UK politics, business, health and science and technology.

The BBC plans to widen the partnership deal to other UK-based news websites but made it clear that it has no intention of extending its content to genres such as entertainment and sport news.

All BBC content used will appear in a branded video player and the content will be geo-blocked so that it can only be viewed by web users in the UK.
