The show, which will air for two weeks in the run-up to Comic Relief, is also set to include 'EastEnders' actress Kim Medcalf, impressionist John Culshaw, 'DIY SOS' host Nick Knowles, 'Top of the Pops' presenter Reggie Yates and comedian Jenny Eclair.
The celebrities will have to sing a live song every night for two weeks, as well as being holed up in the Fame Academy mansion, as used in the main BBC TV show, which made stars out of Lemar and, briefly, David Sneddon.
The show will go out nightly from February 26 up to the final on Red Nose Day on March 11. The last series attracted an audience of around 7.2m an episode.
The show's producers are not after talented singers and have chosen celebrities with big personalities to entertain the viewers. Edmondson, 47, is a notoriously bad singer, having murdered the Cliff Richard classic 'Living Doll' for Comic Relief in 1986.
The last 'Comic Relief does Fame Academy' in 2003 saw the likes of presenter Ulrika Jonsson, 'Cold Feet' actor John Thomson and comedian Ruby Wax join the TV music school, with no singing experience between them.
Medcalf is probably the only one with experience behind her, having been an ensemble singer in 'Welcome Ode to Kurt Masur' at the Royal Festival Hall and played Polly Peachum in 'The Beggars' Opera' before joining 'EastEnders'.
