Radio 2 saw its weekly reach grow by 2m to 12.9m in the quarter ending March 31, up from 10.9m a year ago and bringing its share of listeners to 15.7%, up from 14.1% last time.
The BBC's star performer failed to shake Jazz FM, which is set to be bought by Guardian Media Group in a £41m deal.
The jazz station saw its weekly reach jump by 159,000 to 1.12m, increasing its share of listeners to 1.9%, up from 1.4%.
Chrysalis' easy-listening station Heart FM saw its weekly reach climb by more than 350,000 to 2.63m, up from 2.27m for the same period last time. Its share of listening hours was up to 7.3% from 6.5%.
However, alternative music station Xfm, owned by Capital Group, saw its weekly reach fall 25,000 to 441,000 from 466,000 a year ago -- possibly due to the success of rivals Kiss FM and Radio 1, which appear to have stemmed a steady decline.
Kiss FM's weekly reach grew to 1.62m up from 1.56m last time, while Radio 1 achieved a weekly reach of 10.54m, up from 10.33m last time.
The dance music station managed to retain its 4.8% share of listening hours, and Radio 1's slipped to 8.4% from 9.1%. Xfm's share of listening hours fell to 1.1% from 1.3%.
Virgin Radio, which targets the audience in between the easy listeners of Heart and Magic and the younger listeners of Kiss and Xfm, saw its weekly reach fall to 3.21m from 3.38m last time. Its share of listening hours fell to 1.9% from 2.2%.
TalkSPORT, Kelvin MacKenzie's sports station, retained its weekly reach of 2.25m with a 1.7% share of listeners. Its rival Teamtalk 252, which rebranded from Atlantic 252, scored a weekly reach of 428,000, losing 630,000 listeners in the process. Its share of listening is 0.2% down from 0.5% last time.
Classical music station Classic FM rose to 6.8m from 6.1m, achieving a 4.4% share of listening, down from 4.6%, despite the fact that its BBC rival Radio 3 rose to 2.13m from 1.92m.
