BBC to publish conservation magazine

BRISTOL - BBC Customer Publishing has won a four-way competitive pitch to publish a magazine for tree conservation group The Friends of Westonbirt Arboretum.

The Westonbirt Magazine, a 68-page A5 perfect bound magazine, will be mailed quarterly to members of Westonbirt Arboretum, home to rare trees, and sold in the arboretum's shop.

The publisher is repositioning the magazine, previously published in-house, as a feature-led title covering horticulture, tree preservation, environmental issues and wildlife as well as the arboretum.

The first issue under the new owner will be published in June.

BBC Customer Publishing publishes titles previously owned by the contract arm of Origin and was brought in-house in last year's restructure of BBC Magazines' Bristol operation, which included the sale of 14 non-BBC branded consumer magazines to a management buy-out team.

It also publishes magazines for the HMV group and cinema chain Cineworld.
