BBC promotes Radio 2's Douglas to wider pop role

LONDON - The BBC has promoted Lesley Douglas, Radio 2 and 6 Music controller, to the additional role of controller of popular music across all the BBC's output.

The new role has been created to "gain greater impact for the BBC's investment in popular music across our output", according to Jenny Abramsky, director of BBC Audio and Music.

It is a similar move to Andy Parfitt's last June, when he was promoted from Radio 1 controller to lead youth programming across the BBC's output.

Douglas will be a central point of contact for the music community and will work closely with: Parfitt; Roger Wright, coordinator of classical music; Adam Kemp, arts and music commissioner for television; Peter Maniura, head of classical music TV; and Mark Cooper, creative head of TV music entertainment.

Douglas said: "We need to ensure that we stay ahead of the game, capitalising on creative opportunities and working even more closely with the music community as a whole to leverage the full strength of the BBC."
