Channel 4's documentary 'The Qur'an', which reported what the Qu'ran actually says about killing to defend the faith and about women, netted 1.2m viewers and a 5.3% share of the 8pm-10pm audience, including Channel 4+1 ratings.
BBC Two's 'Mary Queen of Shops' series pulled in 1.7m viewers and a 7.6% share of the 9pm audience. It beat Five's 'Banged Up' documentary series, presented by David Blunkett, which attracted just 885,000 viewers and a 3.8% share.
'Big Brother' managed 2.8m viewers and a 16.3% share of the 10pm-11pm audience for Channel 4, including Channel 4+1 ratings.
Earlier in the evening, 'EastEnders' won the 8pm-8.30pm slot for BBC One with 7.8m viewers and a 37.1% share of the audience.
ITV1's 'Holiday Driving Hell' pulled in 4m viewers and an 18.9% share of the 8pm audience, beating BBC Two's 'University Challenge', which netted 2.5m and an 11.6% share.
Five's 'The Gadget Show' attracted 986,000 viewers and a 4.5% share of the 8pm-9pm audience.
