BBC News Online to offer choice of edition

LONDON - The BBC has unveiled changes to its online news service that will allow users access to content more relevant to where they live.

BBC News Online users will now have the choice of separate editions. International users will have the choice of accessing a new world edition, starting from July 23 at BBCNews.com.

The UK edition, found at www.bbc.co.uk/news, will still feature international news, but give greater prominence to UK stories and features.

Funding from the Foreign & Commonwealth Office has made the new world edition possible. Both sites will remain free of advertising, and all users will be given the choice of which site they prefer.

Mark Byford, director of the BBC World Service and global news, said: "This is a timely innovation, especially at a time when the global appetite for international news and analysis has increased."
