BBC News 24 tops rolling news ratings in July

LONDON - BBC News 24 scored a monthly reach of 15m people in July as more than a third of multichannel audiences tuned into watch reports on the 7/7 London terrorist attacks, Live 8 and the Olympic bid result.

For BBC News 24, the 15m reach accounts for an impressive 39% of multichannel homes.

BBC News 24 pipped Sky News, which garnered 13m viewers and 34% for the month, while ITV News managed a respectable 8.8m viewers or a 23% share.

The week of the London 7/7 bombings ending July 10 gave News 24 its most viewed week of the year, with 8.9m watching blanket coverage of the aftermaths of the terrorist attacks, which killed 55 people.

In comparison, 8.3m watched Sky News and 4.5m watched ITV News.

All figures apply only to viewers in multichannel homes and do not include additional viewers watching News 24 simulcasts on BBC One.
