BBC names BBC Online chief

The BBC has found its man for the new post of director of BBC Online.

Nigel Chapman will be taking responsibility for the strategy and

co-ordination of the licence-fee funded internet service.

A founder member of the Newsnight team, Chapman says that one of his

priorities will be to look at the service’s navigation system.

"I also want to look at how our sites are produced and updated, and to consider ways of creating new communities. We are moving away from thinking of Online simply as a spin-off from TV and radio programming. It’s truly on its way to becoming the BBC’s third medium, with its own unique content and identity."
