Testing on the free-to-air digital satellite TV service will begin at the end of the November. Freesat will the first subscription-free platform to get a full version of the iPlayer.

Freesat, owned by the BBC and ITV, offers 140 digital TV and radio channels and is available to consumers for a one-off fee.

Last month, the BBC's plan to freely share iPlayer technology with Channel 4, ITV and Five was blocked by the BBC Trust.

The Trust deemed the proposals "too complicated". It said it was not clear whether the proposal would increase public value for licence fee payers.

In line with the launch of the iPlayer on its service, Freesat is embarking on an ad campaign.

The campaign will break on Saturday (7 November) evening on ITV1 during Life Stories with Piers Morgan and will focus on promoting Freesat+ and Freesat HD service.
