After months of negotiation with pre- and post-handover Iraqi authorities, the 14x4 metre billboard, promoting BBC Arabic radio and online, has gone up on top of a large office building in the commercial Al Mansour district.
The poster is promoting the BBC's 89FM frequency with the strapline "The World, Your News" in Arabic and aims to reinforce the importance Iraqi people place on impartial and objective news from the BBC. The BBC says that more than 3.3m people in Iraq are now tuning in to the BBC Arabic services.
The billboard is sited above an optician's and is the latest stage in the BBC's marketing campaign in Iraq, which also includes press ads in the Iraq daily Azzaman, promoting the new FM frequencies.
Jane Futrell, head of BBC World Service international marketing, said: "It has been a real challenge for the team getting a billboard into Iraq, the timing and location took months to negotiate."
The poster was designed by UK-based company Virtuality and the site was sourced and negotiated by Creative Media, also in the UK, and the Lebanon-based contractor Picasso.
