BBC director of sport takes on race role

BBC director of sport Peter Salmon has taken on the role of diversity champion for race at the corporation, replacing outgoing director of news Tony Hall who is leaving to run the Royal Opera House.

LONDON (Brand Republic) 鈥 BBC director of sport Peter Salmon has taken on the role of diversity champion for race at the corporation, replacing outgoing director of news Tony Hall who is leaving to run the Royal Opera House.

Salmon will add the role to his existing responsibilities, following director general Greg Dyke鈥檚 public admission in a radio interview that the BBC is 鈥渉ideously white鈥.

The DG revealed that the organisation had difficulty attracting and retaining ethnic minority employees. He said that staff from ethnic minority backgrounds were leaving because the corporation failed to promote them and that the BBC did not reflect the UK.
