BBC caricatures stars to support comedy shows

BBC Broadcast is to use cartoon versions of famous characters including Del Boy, Rodney and the Kumars in an advertising campaign supporting its Christmas comedy programming.

The campaign will air across BBC One, BBC Two, BBC Three and BBC Four and run online from December 6. A radio promotion breaks on December 13 across all BBC radio stations.

The trails carry the tagline 'We've got the whole family over this year' and feature BBC comedy stars seated around a dinner table, swapping wisecracks and catchphrases. Trails of forthcoming comedy shows are interspersed among the banter.

The animation, created by The Hive, exaggerates the stars' facial features in a cardboard cutout-style execution.

Highlights of the BBC's Christmas comedy schedule include an Only Fools and Horses special and a two-part episode of The Office, said to be the last outing for Ricky Gervais' David Brent.

BBC Broadcast creative services director Andy Bryant said the idea of the animation was to highlight the parts of the characters that make the shows so enjoyable to watch.
