BBC buys Stephen King ghost story for Two and Three

LONDON - The BBC has acquired the exclusive UK TV rights to a new Stephen King series called 'Kingdom Hospital', a ghost story about a haunted hospital.

The series is based on mid-Nineties Danish drama 'Riget' ('The Kingdom'), which was directed by Lars von Trier, the Dogme director who was also responsible for 2002's 'Dancer in the Dark', starring Bjork and Catherine Deneuve.

The supernatural series has been described as a cross between 'The Shining' and 'ER' and stars Ed Begley Jr; Andrew McCarthy, still best known for 'Pretty in Pink'; and Academy Award nominees Diane Ladd and Bruce Davison.

The BBC is hoping that the series will will enjoy similar success to that of Second World War drama 'Band of Brothers', which was directed by Steven Spielberg.

The mini-series will first air on ABC in the US in February 2004 and will be shown on BBC Two and Three later in the year.
