BBC to bring out new magazine for pre-tween girls

LONDON – BBC Magazines will launch Amy, a magazine for girls aged five to eight years old, featuring CCBC programme brands such as 'Tracey Beaker', 'Blue Peter' and 'Smart', next month.

Amy will be 32 pages long, cost £1.99, and come out every three weeks with each issue including a covermount. The first issue will appear on April 19.

According to Toni Round, BBC Magazines' youth and children's managing director, the magazine will help girls develop reading skills with more appropriate content than other children's magazines.

"We know that they have grown out of the pre-school titles in the market but are still very much little girls who are not ready for older magazines like Girl Talk.

"During research, a magazine concept fulfilling these needs received an incredibly positive response and was heavily endorsed by mums, as well as girls," she said.

The title will be going up against children's magazine publisher Egmont, which is behind Go Girl.
