BBC appoints Davie to audio and music role

Tim Davie, communications and marketing director at the BBC, has been promoted to director of audio and music.

He will replace Jenny Abramsky, who is leaving the corporation after 39 years. Davie will take charge of an annual budget of more than £200m and will oversee BBC Radio 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 Live and digital radio stations 1Xtra, 6 Music, BBC 7, 5 Live Sports Extra and the Asian Network.

The BBC said that it had not yet decided on who would replace Davie.

There had been speculation that Davie competed against the BBC's director of sport, Roger Mosey, and BBC Radio 1 and Asian Network controller Andy Parfitt for the job.

Davie, the former vice-president of marketing and franchise at PepsiCo Europe, has been at the BBC since 2005 when he replaced Andy Duncan, who moved from the BBC to Channel 4 to become chief executive.
